If you’ve never gone through the process of renovating an old building, you don’t know what you’re missing. They are epic projects of jaw-dropping expense and ridiculous complexity. I came across these pictures recently from six or seven years ago when I was renovating a house in Brooklyn (or I should say, having it renovated) and thought I would share them. It was a fascinating process and so costly that I began to look at any check less than $5,000 as “free with a handling charge.” It took almost two years to complete - two years of dust and noise and plaster and pounding. That was for a building that is about four thousand square feet - the new building is roughly six hundred thousand square feet.
